Zimbabwe Orphan Care

Zimbabwe Orphan Care Project

For several years now the Van/ Fraser Heritage club has been supporting Orphans in Zimbabwe through the Zimbabwe Orphan Care Project. The clubs efforts have supported many different initiatives including providing Backpacks for orphans that contained basic essentials and school supplies, purchasing a water tank and tower to provide the orphanage at Musana with a clean water supply, and most recently providing funding for a chicken raising project at the orphanage in the town of Kadoma.

Al Miller, Van/Fraser Heritage club member has just returned from a month in Zimbabwe and reports that the trip was very successful. The team was able to complete three different building projects. The orphan house that was started in 2010 was completed. This house will accommodate 16 orphans and is a fully serviced facility with electrical service and plumbing. Also completed was a new 1500 square foot Pre-school and orphan feeding building.

The third project was the chicken barn at Kadoma. Van/Fraser heritage club provided the funding to construct a 4 stage chicken barn and to purchase the first batch of 200 chicks. The facility was completed and in use by mid May. Money from the sale of chickens will allow the orphanage to start generating some of their own income. Money generated from this project will be directed towards food, school fees and supplies and medical expenses.

The older orphans will be trained to run the chicken business which will further equip them to support themselves.

Al is sincerely appreciative of the support from our members. It is making a difference in the lives of many impoverished children.
